Led by BuildForce Canada, Construction Career Pathways (CCP) connects people who want to work in Canada’s dynamic and growing construction sector with small and medium-sized employers looking to fill entry-level positions.
Job seekers get the opportunity to participate in 16 weeks of entry-level employment and eligible employers can receive a federal subsidy worth up to $2,400 for every worker who completes a placement.
The program is open to applicants of all backgrounds. Women, members of Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities, persons with a disability, newcomers to Canada, and those who identify as LGBTQ2+ are strongly encouraged to apply.
There’s high demand for workers in Canada’s booming construction sector. Building activity is already at or near record levels and is expected to grow as Canada works to meet its net-zero emissions targets by 2050.
More than one of every five construction workers, around 22 per cent of the total workforce, is also expected to retire in the next seven years. As a result of that looming wave of retirements, employers in Canada’s construction sector are expected to hire approximately 300,000 new workers in the coming decade.
Construction Career Pathways (CCP) gives employers a vital pipeline to much-needed workers, helping them fill vacancies and connect with new talent. The program also provides an important opportunity for employers to hire from untapped talent pools and add diversity to the construction workforce.
Solution
Magnet’s Outcome Adjudicator tool provides BuildForce with the capacity to manage wage subsidy applications and payments while also carrying out relevant communication with applicants.
The Outcome Adjudicator, which was also deployed to support the Student Work Placement Program (SWPP), also enables BuildForce to collect key reporting data required by program funders.
Magnet’s technology provides the tools for employers to share job opportunities with job seekers and target those from underrepresented groups, helping to support a more diverse construction workforce.
Strategic Alignment/Impact
CCP employs an innovative approach to recruiting new talent to one of Canada’s critical industries. The program encourages employers to hire job seekers with no previous experience in construction for 16-week placements, removing significant barriers for job seekers from underrepresented groups and widening the pool of talent.
Magnet provides the critical infrastructure to help employers connect with youth job seekers through Outcome Campus Connect, and with other job seekers across Canada’s publicly funded employment services system, supporting individuals in their transition to new career paths.
