In early 2020, the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic forced closures and service disruptions at businesses across Canada. In Timmins, Ontario, the first few months of the pandemic had an “unprecedented” impact on the local economy, and there was great uncertainty about when and how small and medium-sized businesses would recover.

In this case study, we explain how Magnet’s Chamber Partnership Initiative helped the Timmins Chamber of Commerce connect local employers with wage subsidy funding to hire student talent for work-integrated learning placements.

The Chamber Partnership Initiative is a joint project between Magnet and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
