Construction Sector Workforce Renewal and Diversification Project

As part of the Construction Sector Workforce Renewal and Diversification Project with BuildForce, Magnet led the development of the Construction Hub with a strong focus on labour market information (LMI).

Magnet played a central role in:

  • Designed and developed interactive labour market information (LMI) dashboards
  • Translated complex supply-and-demand data into clear, actionable insights
  • Supported the integration of fragmented data into a unified digital platform

This work was critical in consolidating fragmented construction-sector data into a single national platform that supports governments, employers, and workers navigating workforce shortages and technological change.

Problem Statement

Canada’s construction sector faces persistent workforce shortages, compounded by an aging workforce, evolving skills requirements, and increasing demand for infrastructure development. At the same time, labour market data was fragmented across multiple sources, limiting its accessibility and usefulness for decision-makers. Employers, policymakers, and workforce organizations lacked a single, trusted source of information to guide planning and investment. Without clear, integrated insights, efforts to address workforce gaps and improve sector participation risked being misaligned or delayed.

By consolidating fragmented information into an intuitive platform, the project enables more coordinated and evidence-based workforce planning. It also supports efforts to address labour shortages, enhance workforce participation, and respond to emerging industry needs. This work strengthened Magnet’s role as a trusted partner in the skilled trades ecosystem and positioned the organization for future sector-wide initiatives.
