The Youth Newcomer Jobs Portal (YNJP) is a powerful tool for young newcomers to Canada, offering job matching and career advancement resources. YNJP is a gateway to employer connections and free career services.
About
Led by Magnet, the Youth Newcomer Jobs Portal (YNJP) was created to serve and support all international youth. However, the portal was primarily targeted towards Sikh newcomers, especially those living in Peel Region, west of Toronto.
The portal serves as a centralized digital hub where users could access free resources, content, and tools to equip them to find meaningful work opportunities. Services included resume targeting, job search strategies, interview preparation, career planning, and connections to employers.
Solution
Magnet built a customized microsite and landing page for the YNJP. Users can create a free account through the landing page and access in-system tools like job search and matching, and relevant information and updates to support their settlement in Canada.
All job seekers within the YNJP portal have access to an integrated resource center containing documents, videos, and other learning materials relevant to newcomer youth (e.g., recreational services, programming, and more).
Strategic Alignment/Impact
Across Canada, different groups of job seekers, as well as regions as a whole, are confronting unique challenges when it comes to removing barriers to employment. Upon arrival in Canada, many newcomers encounter a fragmented support system where multiple organizations and programs serve a wide range of different needs.
In this environment, community engagement and connections with local leaders are a critical component of the integration process for all newcomers, regardless of age and location.
The YNJP is an example of Magnet working with experts, service providers, and community leaders within a specific community to develop and deploy a solution that was relevant and tailored to that community’s needs.
YNJP also enabled Magnet to make inroads to new communities and engage with newcomer youth. By creating free accounts on the Magnet platform, these users will benefit from other programs powered by Magnet.
In addition to providing the technology support for youth newcomers to access job postings, Magnet worked closely with partners in Peel Region, including non-profits, career service professionals, social services, and advocates, to lead virtual learning sessions on topics such as networking, succeeding in interviews, and accessing wrap-around services specific to their needs.

The YNJP was made possible by a generous donation from Mr. Gurmeet Singh. Mr. Singh passed away in 2023 and the project is dedicated to his memory.
