Trades Pathfinder links those interested in learning about the trades to resources to help chart their career path, including  regional trade demand insight, skills and certification guides, and local training and apprenticeship connections.

              About

Skillplan has a mandate to carry out projects that serve the training and recruitment needs of the construction sector across North America. Trades Pathfinder is a Canada-wide effort to connect job seekers of different backgrounds and levels of experience with learning resources and diverse opportunities in the skilled-trades.

Individuals interested in learning about construction-related trades can access a suite of resources to:

              • Find out which trades are in demand across different regions
              • Learn more about the  skills and certifications required for different trades
              • Connect with local training institutions and apprenticeship opportunities
              • Find unionized jobs in their region of choice

              Solution

Magnet developed and actively promotes a Trades Pathfinder community that new users can join and that job seekers with an existing Magnet account can access.

By signing in to the portal, users can access various regional Construction Trade Hubs featuring learning resources and information about finding apprenticeship opportunities and unionized jobs. The portal also includes an in-system Resource Centre populated with information and material to help users learn more about Canada’s construction sector and related career paths. Employers can target job postings to job seekers within the Trades Pathfinder community.

              Strategic Alignment/Impact

Magnet’s large, national network of job seekers and employment service providers enables us to create greater visibility and awareness of opportunities available through this program. This gives Magnet the capacity to direct users on its platform to SkillPlan’s regional learning hubs, where they can start their career journey.

Magnet also provides an important bridge between Canada’s construction sector, which faces a looming wave of retirements, and a national network of job seekers. The Trades Pathfinder page enables Magnet’s user base to explore career opportunities in the skilled trades.
