Magnet is supporting the Chang School’s efforts to connect newcomers with training in health care and related services into essential roles in health research, administration, long-term care, and more.

              About

The Internationally Trained Healthcare Professional (ITHP) program at the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education provides internationally educated professionals with Canadian-specific training to help them attain employment in areas such as health research, health informatics, data analysis, and health administration.

Magnet has partnered with the ITHP program to supplement training with access to job matching tools and additional resources to support a user’s career journey.

              Solution

Program participants log in through a customized landing page to explore job opportunities in the health care sector and access additional resources provided by the Chang School.

The platform gives ITHP program administrators tools to support to job seekers in their community, including:

              • Targeted communication tools to inform job seekers of new opportunities, services, events, and programs
              • A Resource Centre where job seekers can access additional material related to their program and health care employment
              • A Community Engagement Tool that identifies which job seekers  are a good fit for posted jobs, allowing administrators to provide follow-up support

              Strategic Alignment/Impact

Canada’s health care sector is increasingly dependent on international talent to fill key roles. Bridging programs such as the ITHP are essential to bridging the gap to employment and settlement for newcomers.

Stakeholders including employers, educators, and training bodies need to come together and connect their efforts to ensure that internationally trained job seekers not only access training, but have a secure path to settling and succeeding in Canada.

Magnet’s extensive employer network, built through the success of previous programs like the Student Work Placement Program (SWPP), connects ITHP graduates with health-care employers who post jobs through the platform. Through Magnet’s in-system news feed, program participants can also receive timely updates on settlement services, networking opportunities, and additional services to support their journey in Canada.
