ALiGN employed Lumina’s groundbreaking psychometric assessment tool to create pathways to in-demand opportunities for job seekers from underrepresented groups.

              About

ALiGN ESDC offered employers a means to recruit candidates through fit-based matching. Rather than assessing candidates based on traditional skills, and qualifications, the project deployed a psychometric assessment to capture a job seekers potential based on personality characteristics and workstyle preferences.

Over the course of three years, the project created pathways to jobs within federally regulated financial services, communications, and transportation sectors for women, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and other historically underrepresented groups.

              Solution

Magnet provided access to a psychometric assessment developed in partnership with Lumina Learning. The assessment was based on extensive research into the characteristics and working styles of high performers in specific in-demand roles. Upon completing an assessment, users were given a fit-score and could be targeted by employers based on that score.

Additional partnerships were developed with the Diversity Institute and the Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC) to provide upskilling programming to further assist job seekers in their transition into new opportunities.

Users who created a Magnet account to complete their Lumina assessment could also access additional job search and career support features available through other Magnet projects.

              Strategic Alignment/Impact

ALiGN creatively leveraged technology to improve diversity and representation across the banking, telecommunications, and transportation sectors. The Lumina assessment provided an alternative approach to recruitment based on fit-based matching.

This project also served as an opportunity to test psychometric assessments and determine how they could be deployed across other projects.

Together with OTEC and Lumina, Magnet was recognized by the Association for Business Psychology in the U.K. for its work on ALiGN. Such honors reflect not just achievements, but a benchmark of collaborative and technological prowess and signals that a well-crafted, collaborative solution can not only enhance connectivity between job seekers and employers, but also set standards for excellence.
