Between Q4 2023 and Q1 2024, employment and job vacancies declined while job postings increased. Employment across Canada continued to stay above 20 million in Q1 2024 but fell by 0.75% from Q4 2023. Job vacancies dropped to just above 600,000, down from 780,000 reported in Q1 2023. In Q1 2024, online job postings reached 312,000 across Canada, rising for the first time since Q1 2023. These continued to highlight the growing labour shortage across the country, with shortages to the Health care and Accommodation seeing the largest impact.
