Fostering a more inclusive and productive workforce by connecting small businesses with tools to hire and retain persons with disabilities.

              About

Led by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Discover Ability Network helps job seekers with disabilities match with meaningful employment opportunities, and offers employers resources to help benefit their bottom line by hiring and retaining persons with disabilities.

              Solution

As a component of the Discover Ability Network, Magnet technology powers a portal that offers distinct tools to job seekers and employers in support of a common goal: removing barriers to employment for those with disabilities and supporting their retention and promotion within the labour market.

              Job Seekers

              • Within the platform, job seekers have the option of confidentially self-declaring as a person with a disability. Employers can share job opportunities and choose to directly target those who have self-declared, helping job seekers match with employers who value equity and diversity.
              • Discover Ability Network also offers job seekers access to resources to navigate important work challenges such as disclosing a disability, requesting accommodations, and managing interview and application processes.

              Employers

              • Employers can access a library of resources highlighting best practices and research related to the recruitment, retention, and advancement of persons with disabilities.

              Strategic Alignment/Impact

The challenge of removing barriers to employment for persons with disabilities requires multiple stakeholders to come together to streamline the hiring process.

The Discover Ability Network, and its inclusion of Magnet technology, demonstrates how technology can be deployed in a manner that supports mutually beneficial outcomes by:

              • Connecting employers to communities and organizations across Canada serving job seekers with disabilities
              • Establishing a learning hub that builds the business case for hiring diverse job seekers and provides employers with resources to foster more inclusive workplaces
              • Enabling job seekers to connect with progressive and proactive employers
